Recreation and Spa
When it comes to mineral waters, Bulgaria is in a class by itself. There are over 200 natural mineral springs in the country, and many of the towns and villages have been built around these springs. Today many towns have built spa centers and resorts which attract people from around the world who come to experience the healing power of the water. The Average temperature of the springs in Bulgaria is from 37°C to 50°C (98°F to 122°F) and are very pure containing a low level of mineralization.
The thermal waters have a high level of alkalinity and very low level of TDS (Total Disolved Solids) which essentiall means it is naturally extremely pure and clean. In fact, the water that flows naturally out of the ground in Bulgaria meets and exceeds all EU water quality requirements for drinking and consumption. In the capital Sofia, there are many natural spring fountains from which pure water flows continuously. The Central Mineral Baths building in Sofia is now a museum, but was once a Turkish Bath House. The mineral water that flows from this spring is a constant 46°C (114°F) and has a mild sweet flavor. Many people fill their water bottles here daily for consumption and disease prevention. This is most likely the primary reason that ancient civilizations developed on these lands thousands of years ago.
Our Recreation and Spa experience takes you to some of the most important and most interesting spa resorts in the country.
